 CO-PRODUCER + POETRY FACILITATOR + PHOTOGRAPHER

Create & Unwind was developed as part of Broadworks’ Unwind in the City, an eight-week summer programme Supported by EC BID encouraging people to prioritise their wellbeing through music, movement and creative experiences.

Create & Unwind was a collaborative workshop produced and facilitated alongside fellow artists  Emem and Sally our event taking place alongside the wider programme, we wanted to create an experience that reflected its focus on slowing down, being present and making space for creativity.

a collaborative experience bringing together poetry, lino printing, and visual art.

The idea was to create a moment of calm within the city; a space where people could step away from the everyday, explore their creativity and make something.

We worked together across the concept, production and delivery of the evening, bringing different creative practices into one shared experience.

While the workshop was a collective effort, I led the development and facilitation of the poetry activity for the event.

For my part of the workshop, I explored my own interpretation of concrete poetry. Rather than asking participants to arrange their words into the shape of a poem, I gave them cut out hearts as their canvas.

Participants created their own poems directly onto the hearts, adding drawings and visual details to create small pieces that combined words and imagery.

ADDING TO THE EXPERIENCE

For Create & Unwind, I wanted the experience to extend beyond the creative activities themselves. I looked for ways to introduce elements that encouraged attendees to slow down, connect and leave with something to remember from the evening.

As part of the planning process, I reached out to Humanitea, a company whose ethos around taking breaks, tea and mindfulness felt naturally aligned with the relaxed atmosphere we wanted to create.

This led to a collaboration with Humanitea, who supported the event with drinks for attendees to enjoy throughout the evening.

Bringing Humanitea into the experience allowed us to create moments where people could pause between making, chat with one another and enjoy the social side of the event.

It was also an opportunity for me to develop my experience in building creative partnerships and identifying brands that could authentically add value to an event.

Instant photography has always been something really special to me. I love the physicality of having a photograph in your hands.

Instax are something I naturally incorporate into both my personal and professional creative practice. For Create & Unwind, I incorporated my Instax camera and photographed attendees alongside the lino prints they had created.

The instant photographs became a physical memento and documentation of the evening.

This is something I continue to explore within my personal and professional work - using photography not simply to document an experience, but to add another layer to it and give people something tangible to remember.
